Megan began her work in animal care professionally at 18, but she has always devoted herself to learning and expanding her care & knowledge since a young child.
Megan worked for many years as both a small animal and exotic vet tech and shifted gears diving full force Into her rescue work In 2020.

Does she know what she’s doing? Never.
How did she get here? Chronic & mental illness.
But is she gonna do it? Flawlessly and with aesthetic.

Megan’s Wonky Too?
Megan struggles with a multitude of genetic Issues that align her very closely to the cases she takes on.
Amongst these are Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, MCAS, POTS, & Gastroparesis.
2020 is when it all changed, as that year did for many people.
Due to a multitude of family and personal chronic illness, Megan left behind her job as a veterinary technician and her In-home Child Daycare business.
After having worked with a multitude of other organizations in the past, Megan and her rescue partner set off to form their own, unique nonprofit during this time off work.
Wonky Hearts Animal Haven, a 501c3 nonprofit organization (then known as Rafiki’s Rescue) was founded that year. A safe haven for special needs and critical cases with a large emphasis on education and medical expansion.

Megan began posting on social media in order to shed light to the beautiful lives these animals who sometimes look a little bit different can have, as well as to fundraise for her rescue organization. Showing the world their lives in fun, wonky ways and that it’s not so scary as one might believe is exactly what can open the doors to a far bigger picture and goal.
It’s intimidating to try something new, especially when it comes with such a large and unknown commitment. Megan believes that these often seen as “unadoptable” animals are very much so capable of finding their perfect families. She wants to open the doors to changing that narrative.

Megan dreams of an expansive organization that involves research programs, case studies, funding opportunities for adoptive family’s in need of assistance, development of tools and unique equipment for specialized care, and more.
Her next step In this journey is the opening of an educational & adoption facility / sanctuary. Wonky Hearts Animal Haven is currently in the process of opening this safe place for animals of all wonky shapes & care needs.
The idea Is that through education and the opportunity of experience, these animals can begin to be more accepted by the world. If there’s a beautiful, joyful place to interact & bond to them all without the commitment to their care, the education itself can expand farther & change lives - people and animals alike.
